Without a doubt, Lucious is one of my absolute favorite characters in The Hacker’s Monarchy, showcasing his stylish charisma, big heart and countless wisecracks. He was actually one of the very first characters that I came up with. (Trivia time! The first two characters that came to fruition were Pat and Caddie!) Now, throughout the revision process, believe it or not, Lucious had the most changes out of any character as I discovered and developed his identity and personality through writing the novel.
Now, I can’t say that I have a favorite “color,” but personally I teeter between Blue and Red. Blue was my favorite color to develop, involving the most intricacy. My favorite superpower is an odd one, which is astral projection. I always thought it would be so cool to invade people’s minds and dreams. So giving that connection to artists like Lucious fit very well and was such a fun challenge.
It was hard to pinpoint a specific scene I wanted to depict with Lucious, so I chose this scene from the first chapter, Savannah Blues. We’re able to see Lucious relaxing in the subway they’ve renovated into their base of operations, hiding out as the proper vagabonds they are. I felt it was important to depict the hideout because we could showcase multiple characters and part of their home they worked so hard building. Home is where the heart is!
